When and Where to Register for Unemployment Benefits in Nebraska

Regarding when to file for unemployment in Nebraska, the claimant needs to file for an unemployment claim the same week he or she becomes unemployed or has working hours reduced. The applicant’s claim is effective the week he or she applies, as opposed to the date the employment status or hours changed.

Required Information for Unemployment Registration in Nebraska

If an applicant wants to file for unemployment in Nebraska, the UI petitioner must have the following information available:

  1. Social Security Number (SSN).
  2. Complete home mailing address including ZIP code.
  3. Telephone number.
  4. Email address.
  5. The county they live in.
  6. Driver’s license number or State ID card number.
  7. If selecting the direct deposit option for unemployment insurance benefits, disclose bank routing number and account number.
  8. The company names for all employers from the past 18 months as they appear on their paycheck stubs or W-2 forms.
  9. Complete mailing addresses of employers, including ZIP code and the city in which the business is physically located.
  10. The start and end dates with each employer including month, day, and year
  11. The reason for leaving each employer (lack of work, voluntary quit, discharge, leave of absence, still employed).
  12. An employment authorization number and expiration date (if a non-citizen).
  13. If claimant served in the military the past 18 months, their DD 214 #4 Form. They must call the Nebraska Claims Center to file a military claim.
  14. If the petitioner worked for the federal government as a civilian employee in the last 18 months, Standard Form 8 or Standard Form 50. Also, he or she needs to compile the total wages earned with the federal employer in the last 18 months and indicate how they were paid (hourly, weekly, and monthly). They must call the Nebraska Claims Center to file a federal claim.

The Unemployment Registration Process in Nebraska

The former worker must register with NEWorks as part of the initial unemployment claim process. As part of this process, he or she will complete a personal profile, an online resume, and their initial claim for unemployment insurance benefits.

According to the law, the applicant is required to complete an unemployment EDD application, even if he or she has a recall date with a particular employer, or are a member of a union with a hiring hall. All claimants must register and complete an online resume.

It should reach the applicant 7 to 10 days after they receive the waiting week credit. For any change of address, the claimant should inform US Bank/ReliaCard Customer Service and the Nebraska Department of Labor.
